Jump Ball: A Basketball Season in Poems  Mel Glenn

Introducing the Poem: Have students share with a partner a time when they got to do their favorite hobby in which it was a good time/moment.

Follow-Up Activity: Have students notice the middle of the poem where the author uses the same word at the end of the sentences. Have students create a poem of their own using their hobby as a topic and having the same ending in a part of the poem.

Once students complete this, they could type out their poems to produce a class booklet of the poems gathered.

I chose not to choose a subject area for this, although the poetry aspect closely relates with reading/language arts. I feel that the subject/content of this could depend upon the choice of hobby of each student.

Flat Broke  Gary Paulsen  Gary Paulsen writes this book about a boy named Kev who is looking for ways to make money and it is a book with creative ideas and thoughts. This would be great to use in a business or economics class in middle school because it would allow students to build on what they already know from other classes and this book could go from class to class. It would be a great book to collaborate on with other teachers as well.   6-8 (maybe 9) Business and Math and Real World Applications Lindsey Snedegar
